Former Mayor of Brava, Orlando Balla, calls for everyone to unite for the reconstruction of the Parish Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte
Brava, July 18, 2023 (Bravanews) -- Former Mayor of Brava Orlando Balla has launched an emotional appeal to the local, national and diaspora community, calling for unity and collaboration for the reconstruction of the Parish Church of Our Lady do Monte, a historical and religious symbol of the region.
The religious community of the Freguesia de Nossa Senhora has been unable to have a place worthy of worship and prayer for many years, because the church needs a profound remodeling.
Orlando Balla, who was one of the main people responsible for the administration of Brava Island from 2012 to 2017 and who is aware of the importance of the church for the inhabitants of Brava, was present at a meeting, accompanied by his wife, municipal authorities and members of the community. In an emotional speech, he asked the population to unite in favor of rebuilding the historic monument.
"The Parish Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte is a symbol of our faith, culture and identity as brave people. Seeing it behind closed doors and without being frequented by the faithful is something very sad, but together we can rebuild it and preserve our history for future generations," said Balla.
Balla highlighted the importance of involving not only Braveans who reside on the island, but also those who live abroad, who maintain a strong connection with their roots and can contribute to the cause. He announced the creation of a special reconstruction fund, to which all interested parties can make donations.
In addition, the former mayor promised to work with emigrants residing in the US to seek additional resources and partnerships to help rebuild the church. He stressed that the union and solidarity of all are fundamental for the success of this collective effort.
Knowing the Brava community at local, national and emigration levels, Balla said he was certain that they would respond to this call with great emotion and willingness to contribute.
As the community unites around this common goal, the cry for solidarity and generosity spreads across the island of Brava, conveying a message of hope and resilience. The reconstruction of the Parish Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte represents an opportunity for the community to show its strength and determination in preserving its traditions and religious symbols.
The journey to recover the splendor of the church will be long and challenging, but, with the spirit of unity and cooperation that permeates the Brave community, it is believed that the objective will be achieved, bringing a new era of faith, culture and devotion to the island of angry.
